I know I have neglected this blog for almost three months as I have been sort of preoccupied and busy the past few months.
The general election, as we all know, brought us some very surprising turn of events especially for Selangor, Perak, Kedah and my kampung Penang. Many sceptics are doubtful about having the Opposition parties as a government while there are many who are just afraid of change.
Well, I personally was a bit sceptical about having an Opposition state government but after a few days of thinking about it (and talking to some of the newly elected reps), I guess a change in the state government isn't so bad after all.
I mean, the way the old BN government has been running things for so long isn't all that great to start with. So, how badly is the DAP-PKR government going to screw up an already screwed administration? Not much, I would say. Granted, it wasn't all that bad with the BN's administration but it wasn't all rosy and good either. But it was screwed up, to the extent that everyone decided to literally boot them (more like vote) out of the administration.
Having known some of the voted out BN reps personally due to the nature of my work, I could say that I do feel for the few good ones who really could work and have a proven track record. However, I sure am glad that the bad apples were also thrown out. It is only too bad that the few good ones were also thrown out with the whole basket.
So far, there has been mixed reactions from friends and family alike. Many are glad that BN was taught a hard lesson that they should never be so complacent to the point that they get a hard kick on their asses. While some are worried about the impact of such a monumental change. The questions that popped into mind are whether it would affect the state's economy and whether it would cause a massive exodus of investors.
While these worries are valid, they should give the new state government a chance. Remember the lesson behind the bestseller 'Who moved my cheese?'. Change isn't always bad. Sometimes it is even good. So, why not just wait and see how these new elected reps fulfill their elections promises? Why not just give them a chance? They may be new at running a state government but someone has to start somewhere and aren't we all new at something at some point in our lives?
True, any mistakes they make may be costly but I am sure they know full well the heavy responsibility that was laid on their shoulders. They will probably do everything within their abilities to ensure they do things right. After all, they were given such a huge mandate. They had to ensure that they do deliver or face an angry mob of voters!
I am by no means a DAP or PKR supporter. Nor am I a BN supporter. I have never liked the dirtiness of politics regardless of which party it is. It is due to my profession that I was thrown into the whirlwind of political events. So, I am more of an observer than anything else.
Being an observer, I do feel they deserve to be given a fair chance. Four or five years will probably fly by in a hurry but in that period, if they do fail in anyway or perform worse than the BN government, you can always correct the situation through the ballots. For now, just watch, listen and take notes.
Change may be good after all. It may just be the breath of fresh air we all so badly needed after 50 years of BN domination!
